Dinner last night was at Vignola. Italian with an emphasis on local ingredients. I ordered chicken livers appetizer; a clam, mussells, and lobster stew; and splurged with gingerbread bread pudding with poached pears and caramel sauce.
The chicken livers were the best preperation I’ve ever had. It looked like fried breakfast sausage and was served over toasted foccacia. It had the liver texture but was also crisp because it was fried up in such small pieces. The bread absorbed all the fat and flavors. The flavor was amazing.
The stew was only okay. There was a lot going on and it didn’t quite come together for me. I am not sure if I’ve ever had clams straight out of the shells like that. It was fine but not awesome.
Dessert however was awesome. My mom would have loved this. The bread pudding was deep brown and super moist without an overwhelming ginger flavor. The pears melted in my mouth and had big pear flavor. The caramel sauce was light and delicate.
All in all a lovely experience. Great food, nice long dinner, good service! No pictures though because it was so dark.
