Crops are finally coming in. This past weekend we had 3 different dishes with items from our garden. The Farmer’s Market is looking good with greens, berries, and much more.

The eternal question is what to do beyond just making dinner with the bounty. Pickling is always a good answer, but not always the best when you are short on time. I went with cocktail syrups today. Each of these takes about 10 minutes of active time and 30 – 45 minutes of steeping.

The rule of thumb is 1 cup water, 1/2 cup sugar, then whatever you want to flavor. Bring it all to a simmer and steep till the flavor is right.

I made:
Rosemary Sorghum
Strawberry Vanilla
Strawberry Balsamic
Grapefruit Jalapeno

These will all go well in sparkling wine. Others will go in either Tequila, Gin, Vodka or Campari!

  1. these will keep in the fridge for a month. if you wanted to store longer i would say pressure can them unless you make one with lots of acidity.
